ORDERED A SUPPRESSOR?

HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT

STEP 1: ORDER CONFIRMATION

YOUR ADVENTURE STARTS HERE

After your online purchase, you'll receive an order confirmation email from Kovix with all the details of your order. This marks the beginning of your journey with Kovix. Keep this email handy for reference.

Kovix is one only a few suppressor brands that sell direct to consumer online. We do this to make the suppressor purchasing process as easy as possible for you.

Kovix is excited to offer two options for order fulfillment. You can now choose to go through a local gun shop (FFL/SOT) or have your suppressor shipped direct to your door through our partnership with Capitol Armory.

During checkout, you'll have the option to:

  • Select an existing dealer from our dealer network
  • Submit the information for your preferred dealer
  • Have Kovix help you find a dealer near you
  • Bypass the dealer process and ship Direct-to-Door via our partnership with Capitol Armory.

Either way, your local dealer or Capitol Armory will help you prepare and submit your ATF Form 4 paperwork.

For the remainder of 2025, you will be required to pay a $200 NFA Transfer Tax to the ATF when transferring your suppressor.

STEP 2: SHIPPING TO YOUR DEALER

ATF FORM 3 PROCESS

In order to transfer a Kovix suppressor to your local dealer, we must complete the ATF Form 3. This is a "permission to transfer" form, and must be approved before we are permitted to ship (transfer) the suppressor to the dealer.

If you select an existing Kovix dealer from the dealer map during checkout, we already have the dealer information on file to process your order. We'll submit a Form 3 to the ATF and wait for approval prior to shipping.

The Form 3 approval process usually takes 1-2 business days, but may take longer depending on current ATF processing times.

If you provided information for a new dealer, or opted to have Kovix help you select a new dealer in your area, we'll contact them to acquire copies of their FFL/SOT information needed to transfer your suppressor. Once we have copies on file, we'll submit the Form 3 to the ATF and wait for approval prior to shipping.

The Form 3 approval process usually takes 1-2 business days, but may take longer depending on current ATF processing times.

As the process of acquiring FFL/SOT information from a new dealer is a variable process outside of our control, please allow an additional 1-5 business days for processing.

If you opted for our Direct-to-Door fulfillment through Capitol Armory, your suppressor has already been transferred to Capitol Armory via the ATF Form 3. Utilizing their unique transfer process, they will be able to ship direct to your door without going through a local dealer.

This sounds cool, but don't be fooled. This process still requires the same ATF Form 4 paperwork that would normally take place at your dealer's counter. But with Capitol Armory, it takes place digitally.

After placing your order, you'll be contacted by Capitol Armory with information about getting fingerprints and the other necessary information to submit your e-Form-4.

STEP 3: YOUR SUPPRESSOR "LICENSE"

ATF FORM 4 PROCESS

Whether you're going through a local dealer for the transfer, or opted four our Direct-to-Door fulfillment program through Capitol Armory, you'll be submitting the ATF Form 4, which is an "Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm."

Your local dealer or Capitol Armory will help guide you through the preparation and submission of your ATF Form 4.

You'll be required to submit general identifying information:

  • Full Legal Name and Address
  • Email Address
  • Phone Number
  • Social Security Number
  • Date of Birth
  • Ethnicity and Race
  • Country of Citizenship
  • State and Country of Birth

Contrary to common belief, your approved Form 4 is a "Tax Stamp" and not a "suppressor license."

As much as we hate to admit it, we think it is a good idea to keep a copy of your approved Tax Stamp with you while using your suppressor. Unfortunately, interactions with law enforcement are common, and not all LEOs understand the laws surround suppressor ownership. In our experience, it is easier to hand them your "license" and de-escalate a situation simply by showing them your Tax Stamp.

Transferees are required to pay a $200 Tax now through December 31, 2025. This tax has been amended to $0 as a part of the Big Beautiful Bill, but won't take effect until January 1st, 2026 - read press release here.

To help bridge the gap to the effective date, we introduced the Kovix Tax Stamp Program where retail customers receive a $200 Gift Card with the sale of every Kovix suppressor.

STEP 4: ATF FORM 4

FILING, FINGERPRINTS, AND PHOTOS

You can file your ATF Form 4 as an individual or as a trust. As a part of your application, you're required to submit fingerprints and a passport-style photograph.

ADVANTAGES

  • Simple and fast to set up - no extra legal documents required
  • Only your own fingerprints, photo, and background check are needed.
  • Typically the quickest way to get paperwork submitted and approved.

DISADVANTAGES

  • Only you can possess and use the suppressor. Friends or family can't legally have access without you present.
  • If you want others to share ownership later, you'd need to redo paperwork or transfer it to a trust

ADVANTAGES

  • Multiple people (trustees) can legally possess, transport, and use the suppressor without you being present.
  • Can be structured to pass NFA items down more smoothly to heirs.
  • Adds flexibility for families, hunting buddies, or business partners.

DISADVANTAGES

  • Requires setting up a legal trust document (can be DIY, but often best done with an attorney).
  • Slightly more paperwork—every trustee must submit fingerprints, photos, and background checks.
  • More setup cost and time upfront compared to an individual filing.

Capitol Armory offers a 50-state legal trust that allows the transfer of unlimited NFA items and protects your investment for future generations.

With your Form 4 submission, you're required to affix a 2" x 2" passport-style photograph. If you want to get a head start on your application, head to your local Walgreen's or IdentoGO (can also get fingerprints here) location.

In order to submit your ATF Form 4, you'll need a set of fingerprints.

You can submit fingerprints electronically with an EFT file, or you can physically mail a completed FD-258 fingerprint with your Form 4 application.

DIGITAL (EFT)

We recommend using PrintScan to generate an EFT file that is compatible with the ATF eForms system. On the PrintScan welcome screen, select "I don't have a code." On the next screen, select "ATF" for the appointment type.

PHYSICAL (FD-258)

We recommend using IdentoGO to collect your fingerprint images for a fingerprint card (FD-258). If you can't find a location near you, you may also inquire about completing fingerprint cards at your local police station of sheriff's office.

STEP 5: CONGRATS - YOU'RE APPROVED

THE ATF FORM 4473

Once your Form 4 comes back as "approved" with the affixed Tax Stamp, you'll complete the ATF 4473 paperwork - the same form you fill out when purchasing a normal firearm. Once complete, you're ready to take your suppressor home!

If you opted for Direct-to-Door fulfillment, You'll be notified when it’s en route, bringing you one step closer to receiving your Kovix suppressor.
